PostSubject: BreakingMS Forum Rules   BreakingMS Forum Rules EmptyWed Aug 03, 2011 11:43 am

The following is a list of all the current forum rules that must be followed by all members of our forum. Be sure to read this and follow it or appropriate actions will be taken. Repeated behavior considered inappropriate by Administrators, Moderators, and/or GMs may result in your account being suspended/banned from our forum and even our server. Warnings may be sent for smaller offences before any actions are taken but there is no guarantee. Please be sure to also follow all specific game forum rules since those are in addition to these rules and must be respected.

General Forum Rules:
  • Do not post links to inappropriate websites. This includes, but is not limited to, sites containing adult content, information on any type of software piracy, or racially offensive materials. This will get you permanently banned.
  • No advertisement of other servers, products in a promotional/spam behavior. (Includes links within the post message and signature or promotional images on avatars.)
  • Do not post inappropriate images. (Nudity, other people's photos, images suggesting suicide or real world violence/hatred, racism.)
  • Do not make any sexist, sexually themed, racist, or hate threads or posts.
  • Do not make any threads about using, planning, discussing, or taking part in illegal activities such as theft, hacking, drugs, killing, etc.
  • No obscenities of any kind in any forum.
  • Never insult an person or group of people on the forum.
  • Do not troll the forums or feed any trolls.
  • Do not attempt to buy, sell, or trade accounts, or anything else for that matter on these boards. You will be banned.
  • No political or religious discussing of any kind will be tolerated on the forums. These kinds of conversations almost always devolve into insult contests or flame wars.
  • Do not flame each other. Use your manners and common sense. If you disagree with someone, do so gracefully. Additionally, do not link to websites such as wasteofalife.org or any other websites pertaining to it in identical nature. It will be treated as spam and will be dealt with accordingly.
  • Impersonating forum moderators and/or any other member of the staff is strictly prohibited. Do not break this rule. You will be permanently banned. Do not "forum cop".
  • No quote pyramids. (A quote pyramid is five or more posts quoted.)
  • Spamming should never be done under any circumstances.
  • Do not reply to spam in anyway shape or form or you yourself maybe banned from the forums or worse, the game. If you see any posts that have degraded to spam wars or have any other infraction in them please let a forum moderator know and they will take the appropriate steps needed.
  • No petitions. (THIS DOES NOT INCLUDE SUGGESTIONS, SUGGESTIONS WILL STILL BE ALLOWED TO BE POSTED.)
  • Keep your signature/avatar clean, no profanity, racial material, drug references, nudity, extreme violence, any illegal activities or objects, overtly religious or political propaganda, and/or links to any other site that contains any of these things. NOTE: If your forum avatar offends some people it will be reviewed and may be subject to removal based on the discretion of the BreakingMS staff.
  • Do not "bump" your screen shots, gallery or other threads. If you want to post something like that, one post will do. And where possible avoid posting ultra large images. Post a link to a image or video hosting website instead.
  • Bumping other thread types is also prohibited and may result in your topic being closed or removed.
  • Noob, Newbie, N00b, nub, etc. and other variants on the word newb can be considered insulting and may result in being edited, removed or infracted. (If the word is being used self directed and not in a bad way then it might be allowed at the Moderators or Admins discretion.)
  • Do not use the forums as a means of communicating with a specific person. This is what Private Messages (PMs) are for. (SERVER INTRODUCTIONS AND SERVER DISCUSSION THREADS WILL STILL BE OPEN, THEY ARE DIFFERENT THINGS.)
  • Do not post in all Capital letters. Additionally do not post in "leet" speak or with specific characters/symbols.
  • Do not create threads with "attention-grabbing" subject lines such as all-caps, excessive punctuation, or out-of-context special symbols or characters. (TITLING YOUR THREADS WITH SYMBOLS/CHARACTERS IS ALLOWED TO A CERTAIN EXTENT.)
  • Typing upside down using an online translator is grounds for an infraction. Do not do it.
  • No bad jokes. (We mean this.)
  • Play nice with each other.
  • Do not make posts with excessive spacing with no text.
  • Do not copy/paste Moderator/GM/Admin's signature images and text with the intent of trolling or impersonating. If someone has a question about their signature, post it in the Signature Test Thread. Copying with intent to impersonate or to troll Moderators/GM/Admins or other users may result in permanent bans from the forum for all accounts involved.

Privacy/Harassment
Never post anyone else's personal information on the forum without their consent and be sure to not bother them via forum posts, PMs, or any other form of communication on anything by BreakingMS or you will be dealt with severely.

Forum Signatures/Avatars
Keep your signature/avatar clean, no profanity, racial material, drug references, nudity, extreme violence, any illegal activities or objects, overtly religious or political propaganda, and/or links to any other site that contains any of these. NOTE: If your forum avatar offends some people it will be revised and may be subject to removal based on the discretion of the staff. Also keep your signature area to a size no larger than 500 pixels length and 150 pixels height total. (This includes all images and text you use.)

English Only
All forum posts and PMs to Administrators, Moderators, and GMs must be written in English at all times. Threads not following these rules will be removed and appropriate actions will be taken against the user. (THIS IS NOT INTENDED TO BE IN ANYWAY SHAPE OR FORM RACIST, IF YOU NEED HELP AND YOU SPEAK ANOTHER LANGUAGE IT ONLY CAUSES MORE COMPLICATIONS WITH THE PEOPLE THAT ARE TRYING TO HELP YOU.)

Use of CAPS
Excessive use of capitals in a message is inappropriate. On the Internet, caps signifies shouting. Be polite, no one likes to be yelled at so keep your caps lock off. Threads with all caps will be removed.

Spamming
Spamming should never be done under any circumstances. Do not reply to spam in anyway shape or form or you yourself may be blacklisted or worse. If you see any posts that have degraded to spam wars or have any other infraction in them please let a forum moderator know and they will take the appropriate steps needed. Users who spam may be banned from the forum and/or game. (FORUM GAMES DO NOT FALL UNDER THIS CATEGORY, THEY ARE GAMES THEREFORE THEY ARE FOR FUN, NOT SPAM.)

Bans
Bans will not be discussed openly on the forums. If you have any concerns about a ban please contact an Administrator via Private Messages for more information or post a ban appeal in their appropriate section.

Old Thread Revival
Please avoid reviving threads that are weeks or months old. We will either delete your new messages and lock the thread or remove the whole topic altogether. Repeated necromancy of old threads may result in a suspension from the forum/game because this will be considered as abusive use of the forums.

Thread Locked/Removal Discussion
Discussing a locked or removed thread is forbidden and any posts found in regards to this will be removed. These threads were adjusted for a reason. If you have a problem with a thread that was removed, send a private message to an Administrator, Moderator, or GM.

Advertisement of Other Services/Websites
Do not advertise other websites or services on these forums or in-game as well. Threads consisting of advertisements for websites/services will be removed and you will banned.

Staff Harassment
All members of our community are expected to respect all staff at BreakingMS at all times. This includes Administrators, Moderators, and GMs who are here to help us better serve the community.

Helpful Tips
  • Use a spell checker to check your posts for misspellings. There is no point in making a forum topic if we cannot understand it because of multiple spelling errors.
  • Use the Search Function.
  • Always check the stickies, they contain useful information and can likely answer most questions.

PostSubject: Re: BreakingMS Forum Rules   BreakingMS Forum Rules EmptyWed Aug 03, 2011 11:19 pm

I've a problem with one of the rules.
"Do not use stupid abbreviations. i.e., Your = ur, You = u, Are = r, et cetera".
Some people don't use those abbreviations on purpose, sometimes it's because they type slow--or don't know how to completely spell it out. Plus, one of the staff member already broke that rule. It's no use being a hypocrite just because you have powers. "LOL," "LMAO," "WTF," "FML," "OMG" fall under the 'stupid abbreviation' (or acronym) category, but you didn't even mention it.

"No petitions"
That implies 'no suggestions,' or 'no voting for what you want' type of things (such as removing the restrictions, suggestions to remove certain in-game material), or anything among those lines. Some of these rules are hypocritical, and I don't really favor the majority of them. :<

"Do not use the forums as a means of communicating with a specific person. This is what Private Messages (PMs) are for."
What's the point of the introduction/server discussion threads?

"Do not create threads with "attention-grabbing" subject lines such as all-caps, excessive punctuation, or out-of-context special symbols or characters."
[Introduction] Ayoo
[Guide] faksldjfksdjf
[Suggestion] fksdjfklsdjf
aren't allowed?

"All forum posts and PMs to Administrators, Moderators, and GMs must be written in English at all times. Threads not following these rules will be removed and appropriate actions will be taken against the user."
Racist.

"Spamming should never be done under any circumstances. Do not reply to spam in anyway shape or form or you yourself may be blacklisted or worse. If you see any posts that have degraded to spam wars or have any other infraction in them please let a forum moderator know and they will take the appropriate steps needed. Users who spam may be banned from the forum and/or game."
I'm guessing the Forum Games will be removed?

Some of the rules imply negative thoughts. You shouldn't be so blunt. :'[
These are just some thoughts. I'm not trying to act as a troll, or anything.

Okay, maybe I didn't think them all out and how each of them would impact the forum community. The stupid abbreviations can be used, it's not harming anyone. Petitions are having people sign it/support it. Where as Suggestions, people just agree or disagree and leave their opinions. There's nothing to sign. And if you get enough signtures/enough people agree, it will be implemented but as for suggestions, no matter how many people like or dislike it, it comes down to the staff's decision. Using the forum threads as a place for communication with a SPECIFIC person meaning ONE. Forum introductions are where you introduce yourself to the WHOLE community, not ONE person. As for the attention grabbing things, the [], etc. are allowed but don't go crazy. i.e., I JUST GOT SRB OMFG)#%)#@%)#@%)#$%$%OMG GASP ASFOKSDOFKSDOFOK OMG {::">":{}{:}{:. PMs that you send to staff members must be in English otherwise we cannot understand them. It's not racist. Forum Games like everything else that I haven't thought through will not be counted as spam. I know you're not trying to troll, some of these rules are barriers.

We're an English server. Deal with it. If you speak french or any other language then it would be more easy if you go played a french server.

@BunBun,
I'm not French. I barely even speak French. I was only trying to say that some people like to use combinations of another language with English (such as 'unnie,' 'oppa,' 'baka,' 'ohayo,' or any of those non-symbolized syllables)--or anything among those lines. I thought you wouldn't allow those, so I thought it was meant to block out other nationalities and only allow English-speaking players into the community itself.

@Helen,
Personally, I don't really support not having a subsection for games, because it's a lot harder to block out those posts that could be edited to not increase your post count. To most people, having more posts make you look like a helpful person. A portion of the forum users only view the game topics, so the majority of their post are from the forum games. Having more posts in the forum games would be misleading, so I was trying to show you that only posting in these categories could be viewed as spam. For example, the GM applications require you to have at least 55 posts. People could spam away in the forum threads in an attempt to look like a helpful person (that's where the search function comes in), but in reality they're just spamming away.

All in all:
The added details makes the thread look more mature, so.. thank you for not raging on me (like some other servers). :3

I like constructive criticism, it's okay. But as you can see, the GM Applications section is closed/locked because we, the staff do not need anymore members and are not looking for applicants.

And I support that thought, because the server's still rather small. C: But that was just an example.

Edit: 08/05/11 [suggestion]
Now that I think of it, there should be a rule for double posting :'D
